Each New Day an Opportunity

The sunshine streams into my window, disturbing my sleep and waking me to a new day.  Each new day is a gift that keeps on giving–for just as surely as the sun rises over the tree tops each new day, it brings with it a new beginning. It heralds an opportunity for us to choose to change our lives.

There have been times in my life when I felt helpless to change my circumstances whether it was my physical health, my emotional state, or my spiritual understanding.  However, those were the times when I wallowed in self-pity and existed in victim mode.  At those times I did not realize the gift I had been given.

I even dreaded going to bed at night because I didn’t want to have to face the next day.  I would stay up well into the early morning and wake only in the late mornings, thus shortening my day considerably.

One day, however, I had a light bulb moment.  These crazy hours were having a profound affect on my health.  I realized that I held the key to change.  I only had to look deep inside myself to figure out what was bugging me.  I realized that I could take things one day at a time.  it was a 12-step idea taken to a new level.

Just for today I could do everything in my power to change things.  Each day was a promise to be renewed.  Each day was a re-commitment  of that promise to myself.  Likewise, just for that one day I could begin my journey forward toward my destiny and my true happiness.

We are NEVER back to square one.  We take those steps backwards with the knowledge of where we have been.  We look up the path to the obstacle that tripped us up.  We know how to get there again.  Therefore this time we have knowledge, and knowledge is power.

We know the path and the traps that caught us off guard last time.  We can now formulate a plan that will guide us around the stumbling blocks.  We can step out knowing what lies ahead and that we know the way.  We will not be groping in the darkness this time.  We also know at which point we need to proceed with caution and take action to avoid the traps.

So, no matter how far we back pedal, our path will be easier the next time.  Eventually, if we stay the course and maintain our determination, we will be successful!

Just remember, each new day brings a new opportunity to change.  It is a gift–a blank canvass that we can paint upon and only we make the choice.  No one else can make us do what we don’t want to do.
